Brandi Seals, a black transgender woman, was shot to death in Houston on Dec. 13, becoming the country’s 22nd known trans woman of color to be killed in hate violence in 2017. When Chelsea Manning announced she was running for the U.S. Senate, I knew I would be writing an article about it, even though I didn’t really want to. Within minutes of her announcing her Senate run, the bad takes were flying.
