Are Hong Kong’s gay men desperate to donate blood? Is it a privilege they are not worthy of? You would be forgiven for thinking so, considering how the Hong Kong Red Cross this week finally tackled the question of accepting blood donations from men who have sex with men.
Brace yourself. According to Business Insider, the average person will spend 90,000 hours of their life in the workplace. That is an awful lot of time, particularly if something integral to you is considered taboo.
Roy Moore, a Republican candidate for US Senate in Alabama, has appeared multiple times on a radio show hosted by a controversial pastor who preaches that the biblical punishment for homosexuality is death. Moore, the former chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, is in a runoff primary race against fellow Republican and incumbent Sen. Luther Strange. Moore is a hardline conservative, who made his name in Alabama by championing social and cultural issues popular with the religious right.
For years, Cuba was not very friendly to homosexuals – i.e., concentration camps for gays and segregation of people with HIV. About 20 years ago, Reynaldo Arenas wrote his memoirs and reminded the world that homosexuality is a crime in Cuba, and he was one of the many exhibits of that repression.

Changing a person’s sex doesn’t change issues any more than changing real estate cures an alcoholic.
Growing up Jewish in the Jersey suburbs, I was encouraged to be curious about other people’s religions and found that strangers were often curious about mine. I was told that questions were OK, but my parents taught me to bristle at any inquiry that would make me the face of my faith. These were questions that started with “Why do your people…” or “Why do Jews…”
President Donald Trump’s decision to ban transgender people from serving in the military is a disgraceful move that reveals his prejudice and ignorance. The president’s directive is tragically reminiscent of the objections made by those who also opposed the addition of African Americans, women, gays and lesbians to the military. Despite these objections, our army has integrated and grown stronger.
