The LGBT community will fight the ban of transgender soldiers together.
I have been pretty quiet about the Trump administration choosing to focus on policy over politics. I have avoided the Facebook posts about his orange face and stupid hair. Up to this point, the only tangible thing Trump had done was to get the US out of the Paris Climate Accord. Oh, he also appointed a Supreme Court Justice, but that was his job.
While his goal seemed to be the dismantling of the Obama Administration’s initiatives like the Affordable Care Act, I was hopeful that he would leave LGBT rights alone. We seemed to have the youth on our side and they are the biggest voting block in the country. Who would ever go against the will of the voters, especially the younger ones?
Since the announcement of the ban on transgender people from serving in the military, the spin has been out of control with Trump taking zero responsibility for his actions.
- Mike Pence was behind this to appease his conservative base? This makes some sense, but by doing so, Trump just alienated a huge part of the youth vote.
- This because of the high cost of medical treatment for a soldier transitioning. If so, why not just eliminate that medical benefit?
- The Generals made me to it. While I can see that they are not embracing of transgender soldiers, blaming this is a weak excuse. They work for Trump and take orders from him.
Now that he has attacked the transgender community, the LGBT community as a whole needs to be concerned. I just read that the Trump administration is arguing that the Federal Civil Rights Law does not protect gay employees.
I am no longer going to look at this administration as anything other than the enemy.
I have consolidated the stories under “POLICIES” about what the Trump administration is doing that goes against the rights of the LGBT community. There is actually little information other than a few tweets about what is coming down, so many news outlets are just rehashing the limited information. In most cases, I will cite the source for the context of the article.
