The Austin Police Department admits it made a mistake after the 2016 murder of Monica Loera by first identifying her as a man and using her birth name.
“Literally her friends didn’t know she was dead for days until they finally corrected the information in the paper to tell us that it had been Monica who died,” said Claire Bow, an attorney and transgender activist.
