In a new interview, the lawyer and chairman of the Liberty Counsel blasted the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) for designating groups like his own and the Family Research Council as hate groups.
Staver, who is best known for representing Kentucky clerk Kim Davis when she refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, argued that those groups were included in the SPLC’s list solely because they oppose marriage equality and other LGBTQ-related causes.
