In the latest chapter of popular culture’s collective “Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin Are Secretly Gay Lovers” storybook, Bill Maher decided to up the ante a little bit on Friday night’s episode of Real Time. The ever-controversial host tackled the subject near the end of his “New Rules” segment, after making a crack about Putin’s predictably shirtless vacation photos.

Starve the gay away!

A Liverpool church which offered a “cure” for homosexuality through a “dangerous” three-day starvation programme was uncovered by an ECHO investigation. The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry, which has a branch on Breck Road, Anfield, was found offering gay people the chance to “cure” themselves of their homosexuality through a relentless prayer session involving three days without food or water.

Gay Olympian Ian Thorpe weighs in on the Australian gay marriage debate.

SWIMMING great Ian Thorpe has had a spray at Canberra politicians berating them for not “doing their job” when it comes to same-sex marriage. The Olympian, who came out as gay in 2014, told news.com.au he feared a “heated” debate in the run up to a postal plebiscite could see some young people struggling with their sexuality pushed further into the closet. On Sunday, Thorpe threw his weight behind the campaign for a yes vote for same-sex marriage. Joined by his partner Ryan Channing, he headed down to Sydney’s City2Surf fun run to encourage people to ensure their details were current on the electoral roll.

White nationalist’s hate speak against the LGBT community.

GLAAD president Sarah Kate Ellis is among the entertainment industry figures speaking out against the rally of white nationalist groups that has sparked violence today in Charlottesville, Va. Hundreds of protesters from white nationalist organizations have convened in the city that is home to the University of Virginia for a rally dubbed “Unite the Right.” The gathering was designed to protest Charlottesville’s decision to remove a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee from a public park.
