Inside Ryan O’Callaghan’s home, the only evidence that he played in the NFL is an action photo of him lined up at offensive tackle for the New England Patriots as quarterback Tom Brady prepared to take the snap. The photo sits on a shelf above a lamp shaped in the form of men’s buttocks. With a couple of visitors in tow, O’Callaghan patted the lamp and, with a hint of mischief, watched it change colors.

The bill is the first piece of proposed legislation that extends recognition to this often-ignored segment of society, Dawn news reported. For the first time, a legislation has been introduced in Pakistan’s lower house of parliament to protect the fundamental rights of transgender people in the conservative Muslim nation.

Fearless as a gay footie referee.

Referee Ryan Atkin has spoken to Sky Sports about his life and experiences as a gay man working in football, making him the sport’s first publicly ‘out’ professional official in the UK. The 32-year-old says his decision to share his story – described as “an important moment” for the sport by the Football Association’s Head of Senior Referee Development, Neale Barry – has been prompted by the recent strengthening of commitments made by the game’s governing bodies to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) inclusion.

Oakland finally gets an LGBT center.

There are an estimated 25 LGBTQ community centers in California, but Oakland has been the only major city in the state without one – until now. Oakland’s first-ever LGBTQ Community Center is scheduled to open September 7, just days before the annual Oakland Pride parade and festival.

Big business in support of LGBT rights.

The Texas Association of Business has been an outspoken opponent of the state’s proposed transgender bathroom bill, predicting the legislation will lead to a massive economic backlash and cost the state as much as $8.5 billion in lost business. The Indiana Chamber of Commerce was similarly alarmed by the 2015 push for the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, arguing that it would negatively affect the state’s “ability to attract and retain jobs, talent and investment.”

“Can’t tip someone who doesn’t love Jesus!”

Samantha Heaton, a server at a Buffalo Wild Wings in Rockport, Illinois, was shocked when she found a nasty note from a “Christian” family instead of a tip after they left. “Can’t tip someone who doesn’t love Jesus!” the note read with “Bad tatoo” [sic] added at the bottom. Heaton has a rainbow colored equal sign tattooed on her arm. “I went above and beyond for this couple, and for them to leave that (note) kind of hurt,” Heaton told the Rock River Times. “Like, I have bills to pay too.”
