The LGBTQ travel industry continues its rapid global growth, but “traveling while gay” can still be a risky prospect in many parts of the world. To help gay travelers make the smartest and safest decisions when planning their international holidays, mainstream travel site Trip.com has added LGBTQ travel safety info to the landing pages of many of its most popular destinations.

It’s showtime for Austin’s Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival

The Austin Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival (aGLIFF) has announced the official selections for the festival’s 30th edition, which is screening exclusively at Alamo Drafthouse Lamar (1120 S. Lamar Blvd.) on September 7-10.   There are many highlights in the festival lineup for lesbians and queer women out of the 39 feature-length films and 54 short films. Sure to be a highlight is Daniel Powell and Elizabeth Rohrbaugh’s BECKS, which is set for the festivals’ Closing Night slot.

Sacramento’s growing LGBT teen homeless population fighting for the basics.

As the scorching August sun sizzles Sacramento, Midtown’s LGBT center is cranking up the A/C and the hydration. Carlos Buchanan is drinking his first cup of clean water all day. “It’s very hard to find clean sources of water… we can’t just drink straight from the river because it makes almost everybody sick,” he said. He’s referring to the thousands of homeless youth he shares the streets with.

Chilean President leading the way for LGBT rights.

Chilean President Michelle Bachelet has sent legislation to congress seeking to legalise gay marriage, a move that follows a string of social reforms in one of Latin America’s most conservative nations. The bill submitted on Monday would allow gay couples to adopt children and would denote marriage as a “union between two people” rather than between a man and a woman, according to reports.

Transgender HIV testing far behind gay & bisexual men.

Although transgender people are at high risk for HIV infection, they reported testing for the virus at just over half the rate reported by gay and bisexual men in recent surveys. The wide disparity calls for enhanced outreach to transgender women and men, researchers wrote in the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

LGBT senior housing coming to Washington, DC.

Despite having the nation’s highest percentage of LGBT-identifying residents, Washington, D.C., doesn’t have any senior housing developments dedicated to those in the LGBT community—yet. By 2020, there is interest to create the District’s first housing development for LGBT seniors. D.C. resident Imani Woody plans on redeveloping her childhood home, located at 401 Anacostia Road SE, into a 15-unit development with low-, moderate-, and market-rate prices, called Mary’s House for Older Adults.

A gutsy strategy for overturning the transgender troop ban.

On Monday morning, the American Civil Liberties Union and Lambda Legal filed separate lawsuits against Donald Trump’s ban on transgender troops, alleging that the policy violates the United States Constitution. Each group filed in federal district court—the ACLU in Maryland, Lambda in Washington state. Two other civil rights groups filed a similar suit earlier in August, meaning there are now three lawsuits in three different courts challenging the ban.
