Shawn McLaughlin came out as gay his freshman year of college, and he felt embraced as a college men’s volleyball player by his teammates.
But then he became a college volleyball coach.
“[It’s harder] as a coach, definitely as a coach,” McLaughlin said. “As a coach, there are some land mines.”
