US rapper’s “gay anthem” becomes a part of the gay marriage debate in Australia.

Malcolm Turnbull says he is looking forward to seeing US rapper Macklemore sing his “gay anthem” at the NRL grand final this weekend, as Peter Dutton argued a song promoting the No campaign should also be played. The prime minister has also reminded people that Village People performed the YMCA at the 1991 NRL grand final in Sydney.

Silencing the LGBT community in Indonesia.

Indonesia is set to pass a law that will ban all LGBT characters from television shows. The House of Representatives has agreed to pass the broadcasting bill, which includes a ban on any lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender “behaviour”. It would also prevent reporting on any gay rights issues.

LGBT German’s can finally put a ring on it.

Germany’s first gay marriages will take place on Sunday, after decades of struggle that campaigners say still has ground to make up. Couples will convert existing civil partnerships or set the seal on their relationships for the first time in Berlin, while others exchange rings in Hanover, Hamburg and other cities.

EU is pressed to probe abuses against gay men in Chechnya.

A Russian activist on Thursday (28 September) urged the European Union to press the Russian federation to investigate the alleged murder, torture and abuse of gay men in Chechnya. The head of the Russian LGBT Network, Igor Kochetkov, also urged the EU to conduct its own criminal probe into the alleged persecution of gays in Russia’s North Caucasus region.

LGBT law students find mentors with similar backgrounds.

When second-year law student Jasper Katz met a successful LGBTQ lawyer who shared their identity, Katz was so moved that they began to cry. Now, Katz is determined to ensure that other LGBTQ law students find similar role models in LGBTQ alumni. Katz is the president of OutLaw, the Beasley School of Law LGBTQ mentorship program.
