Death to gays! WTF?

Roy Moore, a Republican candidate for US Senate in Alabama, has appeared multiple times on a radio show hosted by a controversial pastor who preaches that the biblical punishment for homosexuality is death. Moore, the former chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, is in a runoff primary race against fellow Republican and incumbent Sen. Luther Strange. Moore is a hardline conservative, who made his name in Alabama by championing social and cultural issues popular with the religious right.

Conference about Islam and LGBTQ Muslims in Edmonton.

Junaid Jahangir has been trying to improve the understanding of LGBTQ issues in Edmonton’s Muslim community for years, but he said it’s more important now than ever. That’s why he’s organizing Edmonton’s first conference about Islam and LGBTQ Muslims. It is set to take place from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1. The conference is supported by MacEwan University, where Jahangir is an assistant professor.

Gay marriage debate in OZ continues…”Grow a spine and grown up.”

Nationals senator Matt Canavan has brushed off National Mental Health Commission warnings of the “damaging” effects of the marriage equality survey on Australia’s LGBTQ population, deeming those upset by the debate to be “delicate little flowers”.  Canavan’s comments came, ironically, as two of his Coalition colleagues complained to national media outlets about a tweet they found offensive and leading ‘no’ campaigner Lyle Shelton claimed he had been “demonised and vilified” by marriage equality advocates.

India steps up to make transgender healthcare more accessible.

Kerala state Health minister KK Shailaja has declared that transgender clinics will be opened in all the government medical colleges of the state. As a beginning to it, one such clinic has already opened in Kottayam medical college and is functioning once a month for the time being. A statement released by the minister’s office says that all the departments of the hospital are coordinating well with the transgender clinic. The clinic functions on the first Tuesday of every month.

Counting the gay and bi population in Vancouver is like herding cats.

How many gay and bisexual men do you think there are in Metro Vancouver? Think of a number. I’ll wait. If you guessed 30,000, or three percent of Vancouver men, you’re probably not far off, according to a new study by a Vancouver researcher. But if you were way off the mark, don’t feel bad about it. It turns out counting gay and bisexual men isn’t easy, even for scientists.
