Tom Ford – ‘Sleeping with men doesn’t make you gay’

Tom Ford has said he hates the word ‘masculine’ and insists that sleeping with men doesn’t make you gay in a provocative new interview. Amid another wildly successful yet chaotic New York Fashion Week, the ageless style icon, 56, talked about his new line and how both fashion and sexuality have grown more fluid.

DESTINATIONS

Let’s not forget, Castro’s Cuba is still anti-gay.

For years, Cuba was not very friendly to homosexuals – i.e., concentration camps for gays and segregation of people with HIV. About 20 years ago, Reynaldo Arenas wrote his memoirs and reminded the world that homosexuality is a crime in Cuba, and he was one of the many exhibits of that repression.

POLICIES

Thousands rally in Sydney in favor of same-sex marriage vote.

More than 20,000 people rallied in Sydney on Sunday urging the legalization of same-sex marriage, days ahead of a contentious postal survey on the issue that has divided the country. Organizers said the gathering was Australia’s largest gay rights demonstration, as a diverse range of people clad in rainbow colors converged on the heart of the city to insist on equal rights.

BUSINESS

Rainbow Camp welcomes LGBT youth.

On a cold late August morning, 14-year-old Max Yemelyanov huddles into a circle of groggy teens, some still wrapped in their blankets. A homemade rainbow flag flaps in the brisk wind as more young people trickle out of their cabins and gather around. There’s a welcome practicality to the morning ritual. “Everyone rub their hands together, let’s create some warm vibes,” shouts a cheery counsellor.

Gay Irish PM attacked for having a personal life.

Just three months ago Leo Varadkar’s ascension to Irish Taoiseach was hailed as a breakthrough moment for both the country and his party. At 38 he is the youngest to hold the post, having already become Ireland’s first openly gay minister after coming out on the radio, and the first of Indian heritage. But Mr Varadkar is rapidly falling out of favour – characterised by the Irish press as a slick PR-man who values style over substance.

We Hear You: Debating Transgender Military Personnel and Culture’s Role in American Dream

Editor’s note: The Daily Signal’s coverage and commentary on President Donald Trump’s plan to bar openly transgender individuals from military service got our audience talking, as did our examination of the role of culture in maximizing opportunity in America. Write us at letters@dailysignal.com—Ken McIntyre Dear Daily Signal: Thank you to Walt Heyer for sharing his experience (“I Was Once Transgender. Why I Think Trump Made the Right Decision for the Military“). I have often wondered just how we got to this point. Changing a person’s sex doesn’t change issues any more than changing real estate cures an alcoholic.
