GAY marriage is one step closer to being legal in Australia after a historic bill to change the Marriage Act passed the upper house of Parliament today.
The bill passed just after 1.30pm after senators dealt with final amendments this morning.
Forty three senators voted in favour of the bill and 12 were opposed. There were four abstentions.
