California has made a move for the LGBT history books. On Thursday, the California state board of education approved 10 LGBT-inclusive history textbooks for K-8 classrooms, becoming the first state in the U.S. to do so. The state board of education also rejected two books that did not include LGBT history, as this exclusion violates California’s 2011 Fair Education Act. Liz Smith, the longtime queen of New York’s tabloid gossip columns, who for more than three decades chronicled little triumphs and trespasses in the soap-opera lives of the rich, the famous and the merely beautiful, died on Sunday at her home in Manhattan. From tiaras to tutus, firemen’s helmet and superhero cloaks, boys and girls should wear what they want without conforming to gender stereotypes, the Church of England said on Monday, in a bid to combat homophobic bullying in schools. The Church said schools should be a safe haven for play and exploration, and children’s behaviour should not be labelled “problematic just because it does not conform to gender stereotypes”. Football chiefs and a number of clubs have signed up to a charity campaign to show their support for LGBT equality. The Scottish Football Association (SFA) and Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) are among the organisations backing Stonewall Scotland’s Rainbow Laces campaign this year. The campaign aims to make sport more inclusive for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) fans and players by raising awareness of anti-LGBT abuse.
