Pantone unveiled its 2018 color of the year Thursday, and the choice strongly hinted at a call for activism and action. The company chose a deep shade of purple known as Pantone 18-3838, or “ultra violet,” and although it didn’t directly call out the current political climate, the color comes loaded with meaning. A “win” in Arkansas for birth certificates for LGBT parents.

Arkansas’ governor ordered health officials on Friday to treat married lesbian and heterosexual couples the same when listing the parents on a birth certificate, in an effort to comply with a June U.S. Supreme Court ruling that the state’s birth certificate law was discriminatory. Russia’s delayed Nureyev ballet to test Kremlin tolerance.

A Bolshoi Theatre ballet about the life of Russian dancer Rudolf Nureyev set to premiere on Saturday contains tender scenes of gay romance, testing the Kremlin’s tolerance for what it calls “homosexual propaganda”.
