These ‘no promo homo’ laws are hurting LGBTQ students across America.

In Alabama, a statewide anti-bullying law calls on schools to develop policies that foster environments free of harassment, intimidation and violence. But for gay students, another state law directly impedes this goal. A different Alabama law calls on health educators to emphasize “that homosexuality is not a lifestyle acceptable to the general public.”

Jamaica bans anti-gay Arizona pastor from visiting country.

Jamaica has banned a Holocaust-denying pastor from Arizona who has called for gay people to be stoned death, after outcry from activists on the island. Steven Anderson, from the Faithful World Baptist Church in Tempe, said he was about to board a flight to Kingston when he was informed he would not be allowed into Jamaica.

Out on Broadway: A visual legacy celebrates LGBT experience in the theatre.

Hudson County Community College Department of Cultural Affairs currently presents the exhibition Out on Broadway: A Visual Legacy, celebrating the LGBT experience in theatre, through March 2 at the College’s Benjamin J. Dineen, III and Dennis C. Hull Gallery in the HCCC Library in Jersey City. Curated by designer James E. Crochet, the exhibit features characters and costumes from a host of Broadway shows.

Should the governments give LGBT-owned businesses a leg up in public contracts?

Cities and states have long given underrepresented groups like blacks, Latinos and women a leg up in bidding on public contracts. Now there’s an effort to include LGBT-owned businesses in that group. Take Marc Coleman. He runs the Philadelphia digital design firm The Tactile Group. Coleman is also black and gay, and his identity, he said, has made him lose business.
