Meet the lesbian sheriff who’s running against an anti-gay Governor – in Texas.

A lesbian sheriff is trying to become governor in the deeply right-wing state of Texas. Guadalupe “Lupe” Valdez, a four-term sheriff, will be running as a Democrat in the primaries this year, and is expected to win. Shunned and homeless LGBTQ Ukrainians are finding shelter in Kiev.

Italian university students were shocked to reveal their maths professor was a gay porn star. Ruggero Freddi, previously known as Carlos Masi, teaches at La Sapienza University, in Rome, but in a previous life he played a very different role. Gay people ‘treated as second-class citizens’ in Northern Ireland, Sinn Fein leader says.

The leader of Sinn Fein in Northern Ireland has warned that people will no longer tolerate same-sex couples being treated as “second-class citizens”. Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK that still bans same-sex couples from marrying, as the ultra-conservative Democratic Unionist Party has employed peace process powers to block equal marriage bills in the region.
