Virginia Speaker of the House kills pro-LGBTQ legislation.

Lawmakers in Virginia’s House of Delegates today summarily killed four bills that would have ensured more equal treatment under the law for LGBTQ people across the Commonwealth. Several of the bills dismissed today enjoyed bipartisan support in Richmond and had easily cleared the State Senate.

Toronto Police find remains of at least 6 people linked to suspected gay village killer.

After days of excavation, Toronto police on Thursday said they have recovered the remains of at least six different people on property that was landscaped by suspected serial killer Bruce McArthur, who has been charged with the murder of five menconnected to the city’s gay village.

Bisexuals, gays, and lesbians face greater health risks.

Bisexual, gay and lesbian adults are more likely to experience psychological distress and engage in unhealthy behaviors, possibly as a result of being the target of discrimination, according to a study published Monday. The study in the US medical journal JAMA Internal Medicine analyzed the results of the 2013 and 2014 National Health Interview Survey, which for the first time included a question on sexual orientation.

New York finally bans the ‘gay panic’ defense.

New York State took a major step toward reducing discrimination in its legal system when Governor Andrew Cuomo made moves to ban the “gay panic” defense on Monday. In courtrooms, heterosexual defendants who use gay panic as a defense argue that an inherent fear of a person’s sexual orientation can be blamed for a violent reaction.
