LGBT advocates do not speak about Latin America very often. The region is home to 625 million people, and yet it is commonly disregarded in international conferences and reports on sexual orientation and gender identity. I think it has to do with the fact that, to most, Latin America seems to be doing “well enough.”

U.S. Appeals Court says Title VII covers discrimination based on sexual orientation.

A U.S. appeals court in Manhattan on Monday ruled that a federal law banning sex bias in the workplace also prohibits discrimination against gay employees, becoming only the second court to do so. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overruled prior decisions and said that a worker’s sex is necessarily a factor in discrimination based on sexual orientation.

SCOTUS holds up Arizona Supreme Court ruling in case of lesbian couple.

Suzan McLaughlin is sharing her experience in a five-year legal battle after the Supreme Court of the United States decided not to review her case regarding parental rights of same sex couples. That decision comes after the Arizona State Supreme Court ruled in favor of a Suzan McLaughlin, who is currently in the process of divorcing her spouse, saying she’s entitled to equal parental rights under the U.S. Constitution.

UK football chief promises LGBT inclusion at World Cup in Qatar, where homosexuality is still a crime.

Greg Clarke, chairman of the U.K.’s Football Association, promises the FA will promote LGBT inclusion with Qatar, home to the 2022 World Cup. Human rights groups and LGBT organizations haven widely criticized having the championships in the Persian Gulf nation, where homosexual conduct between men in the country is punishable by up to five years in prison.
