Welsh council makes extraordinary U-turn and raises LGBT flag.

A Welsh council has made an extraordinary U-turn over its decision not to fly the LGBT flag outside its headquarters. Carmarthenshire council received fierce criticism earlier this week after it confirmed that it would not be raising a rainbow flag to celebrate LGBT History Month. The council said that flying the flag would “fall outside its current policy”.

Rainbow pride flags are flying at the 2018 Olympics.

There are a record 15 out LGBTQ athletes at the 2018 Winter Olympics, including two men in the high-profile sport of figure skating, so it would make sense that we would see more rainbow pride flags than at any other Games. We have seen flags at five venues in and around Pyeongchang — the Opening Ceremony, men’s figure skating, men’s slopestyle skiing, cross-country skiing and men’s two-man bobsled.

Can the rising tide of anti-LGBT sentiment in Indonesia be stopped?

On 27 January 2018, police in Aceh, Indonesia arrested 12 transwomen and forcibly cut their hair in public. The arrests were the result of a raid on five beauty salons owned and operated by transwomen. The North Aceh police chief declared that Islam is against LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) people and that the ‘disease’ of LGBT must be eliminated.

Before there was The Castro, there was North Beach. A small slice of the LGBT history of San Francisco.

For several months in 1984 Sean Martinfield served as the master of ceremonies at the famed Finocchio’s female impersonators cabaret in North Beach. He would introduce his fellow cabaret acts, help the performers with their costume changes, and oversee the lighting effects. Martinfield, 69, a native San Franciscan, would also sing his own set dressed up as the female chanteuse Pat O’Shea. It was the stage name his mother had performed under as a cabaret singer in Oregon.

Lesbian couple rejected from fostering because they don’t “mirror the Holy Family”.

On Tuesday, Lambda Legal filed a federal lawsuit against Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). The suit was filed on behalf of a same-sex couple who says they were denied the opportunity to serve as foster parents for refugee youth because, according to the lawsuit, they don’t “mirror the Holy Family.”

Mississippi town rejects gay pride parade.

The Starkville Board of Aldermen voted to deny the request to hold an LGBT pride parade after hearing 16 people speak in favor of the event during its meeting Tuesday night. The board approved the motion to deny the request with a 4-3 vote. Ward 1 Alderman Ben Carver, Ward 3 Alderman David Little, Vice Mayor and Ward 6 Alderman Roy A’. Perkins and Ward 7 Alderman Henry Vaughn voted in favor of denying the request.
