As legislative sessions continue in state capitols across the country, HRC is tracking more than 110 anti-LGBTQ bills and more than 166 pro-equality bills introduced in state legislatures. Despite broad support for LGBTQ equality and the historic national win on marriage equality in 2015, some state lawmakers have continued to advance an anti-LGBTQ agenda.

Oregon judge suspended 3 years for refusing to do gay weddings.

An Oregon judge has been barred from the courtroom for three years, after the state Supreme Court found he undermined public confidence in the judiciary by refusing to perform same-sex marriages, letting a felon under his supervision handle a gun and repeatedly lying during investigations into his actions.

Philadelphia stops foster care intakes due to LGBT discrimination.

Philadelphia officials say the city has stopped two faith-based agencies from placing foster children after learning the agencies discriminate against LGBTQ people. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the city Department of Human Services ended foster-care intake with Bethany Christian Services and Catholic Social Services Thursday, pending an investigation by the Commission on Human Relations.

Chicago town hall hosts mortgage and LGBT leaders.

On Wednesday, March 14, 2018, the American Mortgage Diversity Council (AMDC), in partnership with Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) of Chicago, hosted a town hall discussion with leaders from the Chicago LGBT community. The meeting was the second in a series of town halls to be convened by the AMDC with LGBT community leaders from major cities across the nation.

In recent years, more and more people are perceiving sexual orientation as a spectrum rather than a rigid label or identity. The concept of the sexual orientation continuum was first suggested by American biologist Alfred Kinsey who published influential works on sexology during the mid-20th century, stirring a controversial reaction at the time.
