Liberal giant on federal bench who wrote gay marriage decision has died.

Judge Stephen Reinhardt, a liberal stalwart on the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco who wrote the ruling that ultimately legalized same-sex marriage in California, died Thursday. He was 87. Court spokesman David Madden said Reinhardt died suddenly during a medical appointment in his hometown of Los Angeles.

I’m a Congressman and a veteran. Trump’s transgender military ban isn’t just unconstitutional—it’s stupid.

I initially viewed President Donald Trump’s July tweet suggesting we ban transgender military personnel as unimaginably idiotic. I figured there was no way it would be executed. In the face of numerous global threats, why would we kneecap our military by prohibiting willing and able people from serving in our volunteer armed forces?

Pride House ready to welcome LGBTQ people at Commonwealth Games.

Pride House will play host to LGBTQ athletes, coaches and fans at next month’s Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. The installation will be hosted at Rise, a gay club at Surfer’s Paradise. Some of the LGBTQ athletes already showing support for the effort are former Olympic gold medalists Natalie Cook of beach volleyball and diver Matthew Mitcham.

Majority of LGBT adults concerned about social support and discrimination in long-term care.

When it comes to aging-related concerns, older LGBT adults worry most about having adequate family and other social support to rely on as they age, discrimination in long-term care (LTC) facilities, and access to LGBT-sensitive services for seniors, according to a new AARP survey. Black and Latino LGBT adults report the greatest concern about future family and social supports, and greater worry about potential abuse in LTC facilities because of their race/ethnicity and sexual orientation/gender identity.
