Out lesbian and former Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez is one of two Democrats running for governor in Texas able to advance to a run-off after a strong showing in the state’s primary election. Valdez secured 42.9 percent of the vote in a face-off among nine candidates.

Mississippi town to allow gay pride parade, reversing denial.

Leaders of a Mississippi college town voted Tuesday to permit a gay pride parade, reversing a previous denial and moving to defuse a lawsuit alleging discrimination and free speech violations. Starkville Mayor Lynn Spruill broke a 3-3 tie to allow the parade to go forward, after an alderman who previously had opposed the parade abstained, saying the city needed to move past the dispute.

Initiatives to attract LGBTQ travellers to Bermuda are coming, the House of Assembly heard yesterday.
