One year after ‘gay purge’ in Chechnya, still no justice for victims.

The Russian authorities have abjectly failed to take effective action in response to the violent persecution of gay men in Chechnya, Amnesty International said one year after a series of homophobic crimes in the southern republic were exposed. A report by the Novaya Gazeta newspaper revealed a horrifying “gay purge” in Chechnya in which dozens of men were abducted, tortured and killed.

11 out LGBT athletes compete in Commonwealth Games.

The quadrennial Commonwealth Games start Wednesday along Australia’s Gold Coast and 11 openly LGBT athletes are among the 6,000 athletes competing from 71 nations. The Games, which feature countries from the former British Empire, have 24 sports, including for the first time beach volleyball, para triathlon and women’s rugby sevens. Niche sports such as lawn bowling and netball are also on the list.
