‘Treatments’ as torture: gay conversion therapy’s deep roots in Australia.

Less than six months after Australia voted to legalise same-sex marriage, the topic of gay conversion “therapy” reared its head in Victoria. A proposal to debate the so-called treatment at the Liberal Party’s State Council was quashed by party president, Michael Kroger. The debate was to include discussion of giving parents greater access to conversion therapy for their children…

COUNTDOWN TO THE GAY GAMES: 100 Irish athletes to travel to Paris for 10th Gay Games.

About 100 athletes will travel to Paris in August to take part in the 10th Gay Games. Founded in 1986 to promote the visibility of gay people in sport, they are now open to anyone who is competent in their sport, and are described as “a hymn to love” to advocate a society for social diversity.

More and more Americans favor same-sex marriage — upwards of 61% in 2017. Yet support still lags in certain states, namely in the South. The 2017 American Values Atlas, from the nonprofit, non-partisan Public Religion Research Institute, notes that much of the increased support has come in the last five years, timed with the 2015 Supreme Court decision that granted the constitutional right.

Dykes on Bikes co-founder Soni Wolf dies.

Soni Wolf, a founding member of the iconic Dykes on Bikes whose motorcycle contingent has led the LGBT Pride Parade for four decades, has died at the age of 69. The organization said Wolf died in Daly City last week, surrounded by friends. Wolf, a native of Rhode Island who served in the U.S. Air Force…

The nation’s first LGBT veterans memorial could be located in California.

California could be the first state in the union to have an official LGBT veterans memorial. AB 2439 would establish the LGBT Veterans Memorial at Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City as the official state LGBT veterans memorial. The Assembly approved the bill Thursday, and it moves to the Senate for a discussion and vote.
