On the eve of Alabama’s special election for the U.S. Senate in December, Nathan Mathis showed up at a Roy Moore rally in Houston County carrying a sign and an opposing viewpoint.
A peanut farmer and former state legislator, Mathis was driven by tragedy. His daughter, Patti Sue Mathis, took her own life at age 22, in 1995.
