High Times, The Advocate & Out are now part of the same family.

Oreva Capital, the Los Angeles-based investment firm that recently bought marijuana enthusiast magazine “High Times,” has funded a management buyout of a handful of media brands catering to the gay community. Oreva has backed a management-led buyout of Here Publishing, which owns such titles as “The Advocate” and “Out,” with plans to grow its online and events business, Oreva CEO Adam Levin told Reuters in an interview this week.

30 years of LGBT films in Austin.

Long before South By Southwest and Austin Film Festival stepped out on the Austin festival scene, a film movement focused on LGBTQ issues arose in a small theater on the UT campus. Today, the short movie series that drew lines outside the doors of Dobie Theater on move-in weekend has come to be known as the Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival — one of the longest-running cinema festivals in the city.

Toronto film festival – Leading the way for LGBT films.

“Moonlight” premiered at the Telluride Film Festival exactly one year ago, followed by a bow in Toronto before making history by winning Best Picture in one of the most exciting Academy Awards ceremonies of all time. While “Moonlight” may have opened more doors for black filmmakers than for queer ones, the film’s central themes of identity, masculinity, and sexuality were firmly rooted in queerness.

Piers Morgan attacks gay conversion preacher.

A doctor who claims he was ‘cured’ of homosexuality and can help other people become straight was slammed by Piers Morgan today in a heated TV debate. Dr Mike Davidson claims to have been turned away from homosexuality by prayer, counselling and psychotherapy – and has been married to his wife for 35 years.

Gay Jamaican fashion designer murdered.

Dexter “3D” Pottinger, a Jamaican fashion designer and LGBT activist known as the “face of Pride” in his country, was found stabbed to death Thursday in his Kingston home, the Independent reports. “Blood was splattered everywhere,” a police inspector told the Jamaica Gleaner. Pottinger’s body, which had multiple wounds, was found facedown in his bedroom.
