Domestic-partner benefits dropped for same-sex marriage and it’s not always a good thing.

After the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage in 2015, some big companies stopped offering domestic-partner benefits, assuming that committed same-sex couples would just get married. LGBT workers still face higher unemployment rates.

In March, the U.S. Census Bureau announced it would not be collecting data on sexual orientation and gender identity in 2020, a move that LGBTQ advocacy groups decried as a form of erasure. That decision led the social-science company CivicScience, with the support of organizations including the National LGBTQ Task Force, to collect its own survey data through anonymous online polling that’s so far covered over 153,000 respondents, more than 10,000 of whom self-identify as LGBTQ. Apparently an ‘out of date’ list of terms caused the bisexual Twitter block.

Twitter has apologized for blocking the word “bisexual” from search results, saying that it was wrongly included in an “out of date” list of terms associated with explicit content. The company says the extent of the block was a “technical issue”, which will be fixed in the next day, adding that some terms in particular were “incorrectly included”.
