Big business in support of LGBT rights.

The Texas Association of Business has been an outspoken opponent of the state’s proposed transgender bathroom bill, predicting the legislation will lead to a massive economic backlash and cost the state as much as $8.5 billion in lost business. The Indiana Chamber of Commerce was similarly alarmed by the 2015 push for the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, arguing that it would negatively affect the state’s “ability to attract and retain jobs, talent and investment.”

Many in the LGBT community still in the closet.

A new Canadian survey on the LGBT community suggests while just more than one-tenth of the population identifies as part of that group, many people are reluctant to tell others. More than half of the respondents who described themselves as LGBT said they have not come out to work colleagues, while just under half have not told their classmates. The findings are found in a survey that was commissioned on behalf of a Quebec foundation committed to fighting bullying, discrimination and violence.

LGBT concern – Outliving your savings.

According to a SAGE study, older LGBT people are more likely to be single, live alone and be childless. As Prudential’s 2012 LGBT Financial Experience Surveyshows, the “most pressing concern” for queer people is outliving their retirement money. MassMutual’s recent LGBTQ Financial Security Survey shows that 70% of us, relative to 63% of the general population, attest to being behind in our retirement savings.

Seriously, who thought this was a good thing?

An online clothing company is under fire for creating rainbow swastika shirts in an effort to promote LGBTQ inclusivity… because never was there a greater advocate for tolerance and acceptance than Adolf Hitler. KA design unveiled the new shirts on Teespring. They feature rainbow swastikas with the words “peace,” “zen,” and “love.” In the description, the company said that they were “reclaiming” the symbol to represent LGBTQ people.

Tech giant Sam Altman to be honored by GLAAD

GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, announced today that it will honor entrepreneur and investor Sam Altman with the Ric Weiland Award at the GLAAD Gala San Francisco at City View at Metreon on September 9, 2017. The event recognizes tech industry innovators who advance LGBTQ acceptance and also funds GLAAD’s work to grow LGBTQ inclusion in digital and social media.

But eight months after leaving the distillery her father founded, Hollis Bulleit is taking to Facebook to accuse Bulleit Frontier Whiskey’s corporate owner, Diageo, of firing her because she refused to remain silent in the work world about her identity as a lesbian.
