Significant increase in number of people who identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual in UK.

The percentage of people identifying as lesbian, gay or bisexual increased significantly last year, to 2% of the UK population. The proportion was up from 1.7% in 2015, according to Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures published on Wednesday, and it means there were just over 1 million people identifying as LGB in 2016.

Identifying as bisexual is trending among celebrities.

The proportion of women who say they are bisexual has almost doubled in five years as celebrities open up about their sexuality. According to data from the Office for National Statistics, the number of women who identify as bisexual has increased from 142,000 to 236,000 between 2012 and 2016.

New official figures released by Public Health England (PHE) show a decline in the number of new diagnoses of HIV in gay and bisexual men in the UK. PHE’s figures for 2016 show a 21% decline in the number of gay and bisexual men in the UK being newly diagnosed with HIV, falling from 3,570 new cases in 2015 to 2,810 new cases last year.

Dozens of transgender teenagers are freezing their sperm or preserving their eggs on the NHS so that they can have babies after changing sex, The Mail on Sunday can reveal. Adolescent boys – some as young as 12 – who believe they are female are having their sperm frozen before receiving powerful hormone treatment that halts the onset of puberty and shuts down their reproductive system.
