Documentary about LGBT seniors to be shown in Connecticut.

The public is invited to view a documentary highlighting the challenges older LGBT people face. The Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging, AARP CT and Gay Heritage will sponsor the free luncheon, panel discussion and film showing at noon Wednesday at the Heritage Village Activities Building.

Openly gay Olympian Sunette Viljoen talks candidly about her success in sports and the total rejection she has faced from her family in South Africa in a powerful new interview with Swedish public television SVT. Viljoen won a silver medal in javelin at the Summer Olympic Games in Rio in 2016.

The job search is a major concern for students at Penn, but for those who are LGBTQ, looking for the right workplace can be even more complicated. Director of Career Services Patricia Rose said the department tries to ensure that students who identify as LGBTQ are connected to people and organizations that provide adequate help.

LGBT seniors keep sexuality quiet in retirement communities.

Christopher Ross and Allan Keech, both 68, are longtime partners who are approaching a time in their lives when, as Ross puts it, “it’s important to know our neighbors.” They face the normal vulnerabilities of aging – such as health challenges – but as members of the LGBT community, they also must cope with a legacy of discrimination that often makes finding a community of elders difficult for them.
