The Stonewall Parade in Wilton Manors, a town of about 12,000 residents and 100 city employees, generates an overall economic impact of more than $2 million. “We’re proud to host this one-of-a-kind annual parade and festival commemorating one of the most impactful events in LGBT history each year,” said Mayor Gary Resnick.

Harvard Medical School leads the way for LGBT health courses.

Seeing a Harvard Medical School diploma hanging in your doctor’s office may in itself be impressive, but now, for some LGBTQ patients, the degree may provide some additional comfort. With a new LGBTQ elective course, the incorporation of LGBTQ health needs into existing courses and an LGBTQ-specific scholarship, the school is taking a leadership role in the health care of gender and sexual minorities.

Gay and bi men in Vancouver smoke more than 50% higher than straight counterparts.

In the early days of 2005, flush with $350,000 of Health Canada and provincial funding, community activist Steven RodRozen was hired to do something about the number of gay men who smoke. A new study at the time showed that while only 19 percent of British Columbians smoked cigarettes, the number jumped to 29 percent among LGBT people.

Brazilian judge supports gay “cure” therapy.

Brazilian activists and celebrities have condemned a court ruling that approves a “cure” for gay people. Waldemar de Carvalho, a federal judge in the capital Brasilia, backed a psychologist who had her licence revoked for offering so-called “conversion therapy”.
