Gay rights activist Harvey Milk to receive stepped memorial in San Francisco’s Castro.

The work of late gay rights activist and politician Harvey Milk will be celebrated in San Francisco’s famous Castro District with a large set of ramping steps, designed by US architecture firm Perkins Eastman. The stepped memorial will be built on Harvey Milk Plaza, an open square named to commemorate of Milk and his work in the 1970s as an activist for LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer) rights in the city. Breaking ground on LGBT senior housing in San Francisco.

Work has begun on a new building at 75-95 Laguna St. (at Hermann) that will create 78 units of affordable housing for low-income LGBT seniors. I remember my first gay bar. I was 20, newly single, and frustrated. I knew only a handful of gay people at the University of Maryland, where I was a senior, but one night a guy in my campus a cappella group invited me out to Apex, a club near Dupont Circle. Fair housing bill that protects LGBT people now waits for Congress to act.

The facts are striking: In 28 states, it is perfectly legal to deny someone housing simply because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity; in 2013, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) found same-sex couples faced“adverse treatment” in their search for housing—a finding echoed the following year in a study conducted by Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) and the Equal Rights Center, which found a staggering 48% of LGBT individuals faced “adverse differential treatment” in their search for housing.

LGBT senior housing coming to Seattle.

Andy Post spent his summer interviewing more than 100 LGBTQ seniors and advocates, helping to create the framework for Capitol Hill Housing’s latest development project. CHH is planning to construct a seven-story LGBTQ-affirming senior housing complex in the parking lot next to its Helen V Apartments at 14th Avenue and East Union Street.
