The Supreme Court issues a narrow ruling today in Masterpiece Cakeshop that does NOT create a license to discriminate against the LGBTQ community. Many stories are coming out about this, but it seems that they ruled on the merits of this specific case and did not rule in favor of LGBT discrimination based on religion. By now, you have heard of the devastation in Houston and the Texas Gulf Coast because of Hurricane Harvey. While a hurricane does not discriminate, many of the church-based charities do. The Salvation Army has a history of denying benefits to members of the LGBT community. What we are asking is that you give to groups who help everyone, regardless of sexual orientation. The LGBT community will fight the ban of transgender soldiers together. I have been pretty quiet about the Trump administration choosing to focus on policy over politics. I have avoided the Facebook posts about his orange face and stupid hair. Up to this point, the only tangible thing Trump had done was to get the US out of the Paris Climate Accord. Oh, he also appointed a Supreme Court Justice, but that was his job. While his goal seemed to be the dismantling of the Obama Administration’s initiatives like the Affordable Care Act, I was hopeful that he would leave LGBT rights alone.
