Thousands left hanging by Trump’s transgender troops tweet.

Three weeks after Donald Trump, their commander in chief, clouded their futures through a string of tweets, saying he won’t allow them to serve in the military “in any capacity,” thousands of transgender members continue to serve the nation, still anxiously awaiting official policy to determine their fate. Jennifer Peace, an Army captain and intelligence officer with a wife and three children, and more than 12 years’ service including tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, said the depth of frustration and anxiety is difficult to describe.

Holding the LDS Church accountable for past actions.

The LDS Church’s endorsement this week of a fundraising concert for LGBTQ support groups sends a mixed message, says former Mormon Tyler Glenn, the outspoken lead singer for Neon Trees. Glenn, who is gay, is referring to a statement posted Wednesday on the church’s website that praises the Aug. 26 LoveLoud Festival in Orem as an effort to unite participants in addressing LGBTQ “teen safety and to express respect and love for all God’s children.”

Forget what you may have heard about “one-in-10” people being gay — a long-discredited figure that arose in sexologist Dr. Alfred Kinsey’s 1940s research. This week, a team of public health researchers at the University of British Columbia believe they’ve finally come up with the most accurate-to-date measure of actually how many men have sex with men, at least in Vancouver. Their answer: 27,000 men, or 2.9 per cent of the male population over 16.

The NCAA evolves to support transgender athletes.

People working and competing in collegiate athletics are beginning to see light shed on how to navigate accommodating and supporting transgender student athletes. The National Collegiate Athletic Association, the organization that regulates the University of Nebraska at Kearney and many other athletic programs in colleges and universities across the United States, is working on legislation to dial down confusion about transgender student athlete participation in collegiate sports — a subject that’s created contention within athletics.

Fighting for same-sex spousal benefits in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles County resident Judith Dominguez is suing her former employer, Cherry Creek Mortgage, for refusing to provide Dominguez and her wife with spousal health insurance coverage. The lawsuit was filed in federal court on Thursday and accuses Cherry Creek of violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits employers from discriminating against employees on the basis of sex, as well as other equal protection laws.

Northern Ireland REFUSES to recognizes same-sex marriage.

Northern Ireland’s refusal to recognize same-sex marriage does not violate the rights of couples affected, the Belfast High Court ruled on Thursday, in a blow to campaigners in the only part of the United Kingdom that bans gay marriage. The case was brought by three same-sex couples, backed by campaigners who are trying to pressure the region’s largest party, the socially conservative Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), to reverse its veto on same-sex marriage.
