More pressure on Texas, but now from the NHL.

The NHL became the first major professional sports league to publicly oppose an anti-LGBTQ bill currently making its way through the Texas Legislature, joining the Dallas Stars in opposition, per Sportsnet’s Mark Spector. The league also said it will “reassess” hosting the 2018 NHL Draft in Dallas if the bill passes.

The truth about life after gay ‘decriminalization’ in the UK.

This year we have been celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Sexual Offences Act (1967), which started the process of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in England and Wales. But the act did not mean full decriminalisation. It only covered acts in private, between two men over the age of 21. It also not cover the Merchant Navy or the Armed Forces.

Deep pockets + LGBT activism = Freedom for all

A Colorado high-tech multimillionaire backing LGBT activism warns that his foundation will “punish the wicked”—those who oppose the political agenda advanced in the name of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans. Tim Gill created the Gill Foundation with a $300 million endowment to promote LGBT legislation. The foundation, based in Denver, has worked against religious freedom measures since 1994.

Protection of transgender rights in Pakistan.

The bill is the first piece of proposed legislation that extends recognition to this often-ignored segment of society, Dawn news reported. 5 THINGS TO KNOW

Big business in support of LGBT rights.

The Texas Association of Business has been an outspoken opponent of the state’s proposed transgender bathroom bill, predicting the legislation will lead to a massive economic backlash and cost the state as much as $8.5 billion in lost business. The Indiana Chamber of Commerce was similarly alarmed by the 2015 push for the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, arguing that it would negatively affect the state’s “ability to attract and retain jobs, talent and investment.”

POLICIES

Latino legislators fighting for LGBT rights.

For the first time in its history, the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) has taken a bold stance on two issues directly related to correcting chronic injustices committed against Latinos and many other Americans. NHCSL today approved two separate resolutions calling for the decriminalization of cannabis at the state and federal levels, as well as for stronger protections against workplace and service discrimination against the LGBTQ community.

Social conservatives (anti-LGBT) welcome at the White House

Social conservative advocates and groups seeking to undermine LGBT rights — once thought to be waning in influence — appear to have experienced a resurgence with President Trump in the White House. The growing power of anti-LGBT groups, such as the Family Research Council, Alliance Defending Freedom and the Heritage Foundation, can be seen in the policies enacted by Trump against the LGBT community as well as the close interaction between social conservatives and his administration.
