He’s a 23-year-old Canadian pole vaulter who currently holds the world title at the IAAF World Track and Field Championships, which he won back in 2015. He’s also openly gay. That’s right, folks. One of the world’s best pole vaulters is a cute, gay ginger. He can propel himself higher than almost anyone else on the planet–5.93 meters (19.4 feet)!

When Major League Baseball learned that Oakland Athletics player Matt Joyce had allegedly used a gay slur at a fan during a game Friday, the league opened an investigation into the matter. Joyce apologized publicly, the league slapped him with a two-game suspension, and everybody moved on.

Oakland Athletics outfielder Matt Joyce has been suspended for two games without pay after using an anti-gay slur during an exchange with a fan during Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels. Major League Baseball’s communications department announced Joyce’s suspension would begin on Saturday.

On a hot Sunday afternoon in June, the team at Grace’s, the UK’s first LGBT cricket club, played a squad from Merton, Wimbledon. Asad comes click-clacking up the narrow wooden staircase in his spikes and pulls on a helmet that turns out not to be his – he can’t get the chin strap done up. “Do I really need a helmet out there?” he asks, nodding towards the field, framed by the dormer window in a hot and airless changing room. Team-mate Stuart’s response is immediate and firm: “Definitely.”

Kayakers from across the country will be in Ottawa this weekend for the Whitewater National Championships, but one long-time competitor is racing for what feels like the first time. Transgender paddler Katalina Murrie has competed in the men’s category of paddling competitions for years, but this time she’ll be competing with the women.
